How verification works
What the Verified badge means, what we check, and what it does not guarantee — for both homeowners and contractors.
Why this page exists
GulfServicePros lists contractors at two levels: standard listings (the majority) and Verified listings (paid contractor partners who have passed our verification process). This page explains exactly what each level means so both homeowners and contractors can make informed decisions.
We try to be honest about what verification is and what it isn't. A Verified badge is real signal — but it's not a warranty.
For homeowners: what the Verified badge means
When you see a contractor with a Verified badge on GulfServicePros, here is what we have confirmed at the time of verification:
What we check
Active state licensing. For trades that require Louisiana state licensing (HVAC mechanical, master plumber, master electrician, etc.), we confirm the contractor holds a current, active license through the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors. We record the license number and class.
Liability insurance on file. We require the contractor to provide a current Certificate of Insurance showing general liability coverage. We confirm the policy is active and the coverage limits meet our minimum threshold.
Verifiable physical Louisiana address. We confirm the contractor has a real Louisiana business address, not just a phone number routed to a national call center. This is a meaningful filter — many low-quality lead-gen "contractors" advertise locally but are out-of-state operators.
Active business status. We check that the business is in good standing with the Louisiana Secretary of State (where applicable for the entity type) and that the contractor is currently accepting work in the parishes shown on their profile.
Working contact information. We confirm the phone number rings, the email address responds, and the website (if any) is functional.
What we do NOT check
Work quality. We do not personally inspect contractor work, interview past customers, or verify reviews. The Verified badge means the business is real, licensed, insured, and reachable — not that the work will be good.
Pricing fairness. We do not regulate or audit what contractors charge. Our published cost ranges are general market estimates, not contractor-specific quotes.
Specific job suitability. Verification is general (the contractor is real and operating); it does not certify that they are the right fit for your specific job, your home, or your budget.
Background checks on individual workers. We verify the business; we do not run criminal background checks on individual technicians employed by the contractor. Some contractors do this themselves and we encourage you to ask.
Real-time license status. We check licensing at the time of verification and re-check periodically, but a license could lapse between our checks. For any contractor — verified or not — we recommend you also independently verify their state license at lslbc.louisiana.gov before hiring. That database is public, free, authoritative, and updated in real time.
What you should still do
Even for Verified contractors, basic due diligence applies:
- Confirm the license at lslbc.louisiana.gov before hiring
- Get a written estimate before authorizing work
- Confirm the scope of work, timeline, and total cost in writing
- For larger jobs (over $5,000), get at least one second quote
- Read recent reviews on Google Business Profile or other public sources
- Verify the technician arriving at your home matches the company you hired
The honest framing
A Verified badge means we did the work to confirm this contractor is a legitimate, licensed, insured, locally operating business. That eliminates the most common bad outcomes — out-of-state lead aggregators, unlicensed handymen using a fake business name, contractors with lapsed insurance who can't cover damage. It does not eliminate every risk.
Unverified listings can still be perfectly good contractors. Many local pros simply haven't paid for the Verified badge or haven't gone through our process yet. The badge is a positive signal, not a negative judgment on contractors who don't have it.
For contractors: how to get verified
If you're a Louisiana contractor and you want to upgrade your listing to Verified, here's how it works.
Eligibility
To be eligible for verification, you must:
- Hold an active Louisiana state license appropriate to your trade (or be a trade that does not require state licensing — e.g. cleaning services)
- Carry current general liability insurance with appropriate coverage
- Have a verifiable physical Louisiana business address (not a P.O. box only)
- Be actively accepting work in the parishes you wish to be listed in
- Have a working phone number, email, and (preferably) website
What you submit
When you apply for verification, you provide:
- Your business name and entity type
- Your Louisiana state license number
- A current Certificate of Insurance showing general liability coverage
- Your physical business address
- Your service area (parishes and/or specific cities)
- Your service categories
- A primary contact phone number and email
- (Optional) Logo, photos, and additional profile content
What we do with it
We verify each item against authoritative sources:
- License number cross-checked against the LSLBC public database
- Insurance certificate confirmed with the issuing carrier
- Business address confirmed via Google Maps and Louisiana Secretary of State filings
- Phone and email tested
If everything checks out, you receive the Verified badge and your listing is upgraded. If something doesn't check out, we'll let you know specifically what we couldn't verify so you can address it.
Cost and what you get
Verified listings are paid. Pricing depends on the markets and service categories you want to be listed in. Contact partners@gulfservicepros.com for current rates.
With a Verified listing you get:
- The Verified badge displayed prominently on your listing
- Higher placement in search results within your service categories and parishes
- Expanded profile with logo, photos, longer description, and direct CTAs
- Inclusion in the lead routing pool for the service categories and areas you cover (when homeowners use the optional request form, requests are routed to up to 3 Verified contractors who match)
- A monthly summary of leads, profile views, and contact-button clicks
What we don't promise
- We don't guarantee any specific number of leads. Lead volume depends on homeowner demand, your service area, and your category.
- We don't guarantee top placement. Multiple Verified contractors may compete for placement within the same service × city combination.
- We don't guarantee that any given lead will result in a job. Conversion is up to you and how quickly and well you respond.
How to apply
Email partners@gulfservicepros.com with:
- Your business name
- Your Louisiana state license number (if applicable)
- The parishes and service categories you want to be listed in
- Confirmation that you carry current general liability insurance
We'll respond within 1 business day with the next steps.
Maintaining verification
Verification is checked periodically (currently every 12 months) for badged listings. We'll reach out before your re-check window with the documents we need to refresh. If your license lapses, your insurance expires, or your business closes, the Verified badge is removed and we'll discuss next steps.
We also remove the Verified badge in response to consistent, substantiated complaint patterns from homeowners. We don't do this lightly, and we always reach out to the contractor first to understand the situation.
